Detailed Description:
This piece is an example of Rantai Shikki (藍胎漆器), a traditional Japanese lacquerware technique characterized by a bamboo-woven core coated with lacquer. Unlike solid wooden lacquerware, Rantai Shikki combines the flexibility and lightness of bamboo craftsmanship with the refined appearance of Japanese lacquer finishing.
The basket features a distinctive openwork structure formed by bamboo ribs, giving it an airy yet structured silhouette. The interior is finished in a deep red lacquer tone, while the exterior retains a darker, elegant finish. This contrast highlights the craftsmanship and depth typical of Rantai Shikki ware.
Rantai Shikki items have long been appreciated in Japan for their balance of beauty and function. They are commonly used as serving baskets, confectionery containers, or decorative table pieces, and are also valued as tasteful interior accents that reflect traditional Japanese aesthetics.
