Nagasaki's altitude Mr. Kitamura's hojicha is grown organically at a altitude of 300 meters. A combination of 3rd bancha, which is harvested around August, and autumn/winter bancha, which is harvested around October, and roasted to make it look like regular sencha rather than tamaryokucha. Since 1975, Mr. Kitamura has been cultivating tea completely organically and without pesticides on the top of a mountain overlooking Kujukushima, Hirado, and the Goto Islands, in response to customers' requests to drink safe tea. For our long history and technology, we have received the Japan Agricultural Pioneer Award, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award, and the Environmental Conservation Agriculture Award. JAS organic certified hojicha.
