How to Prepare Matcha

For Traditional Matcha (Usucha – Thin Tea)

  1. Sift 1 teaspoon (about 2g) of matcha into a tea bowl.
  2. Add 60-70ml (2-2.5oz) of hot water (80°C / 176°F).
  3. Use a bamboo whisk (chasen) to whisk in a zigzag motion until frothy.

For Koicha (Thick Tea)

  1. Sift 2 teaspoons (about 4g) of matcha into a tea bowl.
  2. Add 30ml (1oz) of hot water and stir slowly and thoroughly until smooth.

For Matcha Latte

  1. Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha into a cup.
  2. Add a small amount of warm water and mix into a smooth paste.
