About the Author

Naofumi Abe (born 1949) is a Japanese journalist, publishing producer, and editor from Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. After working in newspapers and publishing houses, he became a freelance writer and editor. He is well known for his illustrated educational books explaining social systems and culture, including the widely circulated “Illustrated How Things Work” series. In recent years his work has focused on Japanese society, comparative culture, and Shinto traditions.
