This Japanese serving tray features a refined urushi lacquer coating applied to a molded
base made from wood powder and phenolic resin, a material combination widely used in
high-quality modern Japanese lacquerware. The surface is finished with traditional urushi
lacquer, giving the tray its deep gloss and smooth texture.
The design presents a dynamic koi fish motif, symbolizing strength, perseverance, and
good fortune in Japanese culture. Flowing brush-style lines and subtle color accents create a
calm yet expressive composition inspired by Zen aesthetics. The tray is part of the “ZEN –
