VINTAGE - Japanese Arita Ware Porcelain Teapot – Turquoise and Purple Vine Design
Available in stock
Description
Description
An elegant vintage Japanese porcelain teapot, most likely produced in the tradition of Arita ware, 有田焼, one of Japan’s best-known porcelain-making regions.
The decoration is characteristic of iroe, 色絵, a Japanese polychrome overglaze technique in which coloured enamels are applied to an already glazed porcelain surface. The metallic details are executed in kinsai, 金彩, or gold decoration. In traditional Arita production, the porcelain body undergoes a high-temperature principal firing, while the coloured and metallic decoration is fixed during an additional lower-temperature firing.
The teapot is fitted with a removable porcelain lid and a traditional arched bamboo or rattan handle. The natural handle creates a warm contrast with the cool porcelain body and gives the piece the appearance of a classic Japanese dobin-style teapot.
