Description
Description
This vintage Japanese quartz table clock is designed in the form of a folding byōbu screen, combining a functional timepiece with traditional Japanese-inspired decoration.
The clock is set into the left panel, while the right panel features an elegant golden scene with figures in classical court clothing, flowering plants, autumn maple leaves, and traditional architecture. The composition is reminiscent of decorative scenes associated with Heian-period court culture and classical Japanese folding screens.
The hinged construction allows the clock to be folded closed for storage or opened for display. Its gold-toned surface and detailed pictorial decoration give it the appearance of a miniature Japanese screen.
Japanese decorative clocks of this type are commonly described as 屏風時計 (byōbu dokei), meaning “folding-screen clock.”
The dial is marked Quartz Japan. The black rear section contains the battery-operated clock mechanism and a fold-out support for tabletop display.
Material: Appears to be made from plastic.
Dimensions: Length when fully opened: approximately 39 cm; height: approximately 19 cm.
Condition: Vintage, very good condition. The clock shows visible signs of age and previous use, including scratches, marks, rubbing, discoloration, and wear to the gold-toned surface, edges, hinges, and rear casing.
The quartz clock mechanism has been tested and is currently working. Due to the age and vintage nature of the item, continued accuracy and long-term operation cannot be guaranteed. Battery is not included.
