VINTAGE - Japanese porcelain lidded bowl with iroe overglaze phoenix

This elegant Japanese porcelain bowl features a fitted lid decorated with a richly detailed hōō, the mythical Japanese phoenix. The colourful design combines deep red, green, blue and gold-toned accents, creating a refined, jewel-like appearance.

The smooth white interior makes the bowl suitable for serving small dishes, sweets or side dishes. It may also be displayed as a decorative piece or used as a jewellery and keepsake container.

The decoration appears to have been created using polychrome overglaze enamels, known in Japan as iroe. The precise outlines and repeated feather details suggest that transfer decoration may have been combined with hand-applied coloured and metallic finishing.

The Japanese phoenix, known as hōō, is an auspicious symbol traditionally associated with peace, virtue, prosperity and renewal. Its elaborate plumage makes it a popular decorative motif in Japanese ceramics and fine arts.
